The primary responsibilities for this 9-month tenure track position include teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses in child development, early education and family studies; developing a research program in the discipline and securing external grants; advising graduate and undergraduate students; program coordination; collaborating with the educator preparation program; student mentoring and recruitment; participating in curriculum development; collaborating with faculty on research and creative scholarship activities; serving on departmental, college and university committees; and participating in other academic functions.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit:
The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences is one of four academic departments within the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences and is accredited by the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS). The department offers Bachelor of Science degrees in three program areas with the following six distinct specialty emphases: child development and family relations (non-licensure), child development, early education and family studies (birth-kindergarten licensure), consumer sciences, fashion merchandising and design, food and nutritional sciences (nutrition and pre-medicine in nutrition), and food and nutritional sciences (food science). Additionally, the department offers a Master of Science degree in food and nutritional sciences, an online Master of Arts in Teaching in family and consumer sciences education, a Master of Arts in Teaching in child development, early education and family studies (birth-kindergarten licensure), an online Advanced Certificate in family and consumer sciences and an online certificate in family financial planning. Faculty members are actively engaged in research that contributes to the body of knowledge in the areas of nutrition, food science, housing, apparel, textiles, child development, and family issues.

Earned doctorate in child development, early education and family studies or closely related field from an accredited university. Demonstrated ability to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in child development, early education and family studies. Successful experience teaching at the primary, secondary, and/or collegiate levels, strong technology skills related to delivery of distance education; documented record of scholarly achievement and grant writing experience.
At least three years teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels; experience supervising student teachers and students enrolled in supervised intern programs.
