Stella and Charles Guttman Community College, City University of New York, seeks to fill an Instructor position in Interdisciplinary Studies. For this position, we seek a Social Science educator with expertise in Special Education/Disability Studies. The successful candidate will demonstrate practical knowledge of interdisciplinary disability studies scholarship in their research and teaching. The successful candidate will also have the ability to teach interdisciplinary courses in the First Year Experience as part of an instructional team. This position will begin in fall 2020; faculty are required to teach a 24-hour course load; up to 8 courses; for the 2020-2021 Academic Year.
As the newest community college in the CUNY system, Guttman is a student success centered environment committed to helping students reach their intellectual and professional goals. As a majority of Guttman students enroll directly out of high school, students primarily take general education and lower division courses for university transfer. The College's instructional model combines high-impact educational practices that include learning communities, peer mentoring, experiential learning, use of ePortfolio, and full-time first year attendance. Academic technology is integral to the delivery and assessment of student learning and advising. Faculty collaborate in an interdisciplinary environment as part of a first-year instructional team, and teach in Guttman's five Programs of Study, rather than traditional academic departments (Business Administration, Human Services, Liberal Arts & Sciences with the option of a Science Concentration, Information Technology and Urban Studies).

Master's degree in Special Education/Disability studies in education or relevant interdisciplinary field, and experience researching, teaching and learning with diverse intellectual styles. At least two years of successful teaching experience in a college setting (full-time or part-time) required.
In addition, faculty candidates should have demonstrated ability in most of the following areas:
Teaching students of diverse racial, ethnic, linguistic and educational backgrounds
Understanding issues of varied intellectual abilities and learning differences, such as dyslexia, ADHD, and ASD
Writing creative research-based curriculum at the post-secondary level
Possessing an active, student-centered pedagogy and significant student mentoring experience
Experience using current technology as it supports teaching and learning
Designing and implementing unique co-curricular projects
Active progress toward a Doctorate, or equivalent in Special Education/Disability Studies in education or a relevant sought interdisciplinary field with expertise working with neurodiverse learners.
At least two years successful teaching experience with inclusive teaching practices (students with disabilities) in K-12 or higher education
Demonstrated capacity to use a diverse range of effective student-centered instructional strategies and openness to adopting new practices
Ability to work in a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary environment
A practice of reflective thinking about teaching
Experience teaching in learning communities or linked courses
