The Education Department at Mount Saint Mary's University (Los Angeles) invite applicants with a master or doctoral degree in education, or a related field, with expertise in K-12 education to teach EDU 1/254 in the Elementary Teacher Credentialing Program. Classes are offered to graduate and undergraduate students during the fall and spring semesters, in the evenings from 5:30 to 8:30PM. EDU 1/254 is a combined undergraduate and graduate level course that examines mathematics and science concepts and practices and the research based pedagogy that results in effective instruction in these areas. A major focus is on constructivist learning theory, California Common Core State Standards for Mathematics (CCSS-Mathematics), a Framework for K-12 Science Education and the California Next Generation Science Standards (CA-NGSS). Strategies include but are not limited to Project Based Learning (PBL), scaffolding instruction for English Learners (EL), differentiating for special needs/gifted students and incorporating the California Common Core Standards in Speaking and Listening, Writing, and Reading Informational Text. Emphasis is placed on both individual and group participation.
All courses are held on the historic downtown Doheny Campus, centrally located near the 10 and 110 freeways.
Qualifications: Applicants must hold a masters or doctoral degree in education, or a related field. Expertise with K-12 education is expected.
