Position Function: The Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor in Computer Science and Engineering is under administrative supervision of the Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Specific activities include conducting research in the professor's principal fields of interest, contributing toward the strengthening of our research environment, and teaching courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Salary Grade: UC Please see Staff Compensation Structure or Skilled Crafts and Service Maintenance Compensation Schedule for salary ranges. For salary grade UC, these positions are "Unclassified" and salary ranges are determined by the hiring department. Department Profile: Part of the Bagley College of Engineering, the department has approximately 660 undergraduate majors and 80 graduate students. The department offers undergraduate programs in Computer Science and Software Engineering, jointly administers an undergraduate program in Computer Engineering with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and is in the process to offer a Cybersecurity undergraduate program soon. At the graduate level, we offer M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science and M.S. degree in Cybersecurity and Operations, and the faculty directs graduate students in Computational Engineering. Certificates in Information Assurance, Cyber Operations and Computational Biology are also available. In the last fiscal year, research expenditures totaled to about $10 million dollars and the university as a whole is ranked 60th among U.S. institutions in computer science expenditures. Research core areas for the department are artificial intelligence, computational science, visualization and graphics, bioinformatics, parallel and distributed computing, software engineering, human-robot interaction, augmented and virtual reality, security and cryptography and computer science education. Faculty in the department are active in many university research centers including the Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems, the Center for Cyber Innovation, the Center for Computational Science, and the Institute for Genomics, Biocomputing & Biotechnology. The computer security area has been designated a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education (CAEIAE) by the National Security Agency (NSA). Finally, Mississippi State University's supercomputer is the 4th fastest in U.S. academia. Area of Specialization: All areas related to Cybersecurity are considered. Anticipated Appointment Date: August 16, 2021 Tenure Track Status: Tenure Track for Assistant Professor; Tenured for Associate Professor or Professor Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Research: performs and publishes research in the areas of interest and advances state of the art; obtains research grants/contracts with federal government and private industry; keeps other faculty members and students informed of advances in the areas of interest. Minimum Qualifications: Candidates for the position are expected to hold a Ph.D. in computer science or closely related field (ABDs may be considered). Rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Must be a US citizen or permanent resident. ABDs or degree pending considered (all but DISS): Yes, for Assistant Professor only. Preferred Qualifications: Preferred qualifications include teaching and research experience, a substantial record of peer-review publications, and demonstrated ability to secure external funding. However, recent graduates with exceptional academic credentials are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to individuals with a track record of interdisciplinary research collaboration.
