Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Instructional Designer for the School of Social Work to provide Instructional Technology support to our academic programs. This position provides assistance to faculty seeking the use of instructional technology to enhance teaching and learning. The Instructional Designer Supports day-to-day responsibilities of the instructional design functions, ensuring that Canvas courses are regularly updated and available to faculty and instructors. Will be responsible for copying courses into live semester course shells and conducting quality assurance across all courses. This may include updating course due dates, checking links, and updating course content. Transitioning online or on-campus courses into hybrid courses for remote learning, will require attention to detail and ability to conceptualize how course assignments may need to be adjusted for different learning modalities. Provides support throughout the semester to faculty and instructors to update any course issues and provide technical assistance as needed. Collaborates with SSW’s Online Program Director and instructional designer to create, organize, and schedule events that will engage faculty in the adoption and use of technology that will create increased teaching and/or learning effectiveness and/or efficiency.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Performs routine needs assessments to identify improvements for websites, learning objectives, delivery techniques, and/or learning activities.
Identifies and resolves curriculum design and production problems for print, web-based, interactive, or other course delivery systems.
Works with faculty to integrate instructional tools into their teaching. Plans, develops, and conducts training.
Develops and maintains training materials and online resources related to the use of instructional technologies and software applications.
Researches and reviews data to remain current on strategies and trends in learning technology.
May participates in the process of short and long term strategic planning for the integration of instructional technology.
Installs, configures and maintains software and troubleshoots problems with microcomputer hardware, operating systems and peripheral equipment.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, education, communications, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
A minimum of two (2) experience in the use of instructional technology to enhance teaching.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of designing, developing, delivering, and evaluating educational programs; training techniques; current technologies; instructional technologies; various hardware, peripherals and operating systems; networking systems; and various software packages.
Good interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
Ability to facilitate and present instructional materials; assess technology and software programs and identify advantages and limitations of using various technologies for instructional purposes.
General knowledge and a reasonable mix of technical and pedagogical experience.
Ability to effectively demonstrate instructional applications of technologies.
Ability to effectively communicate technical information to a nontechnical audience; and establish cooperative working relationships.
