Candidates for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Family and Consumer Sciences (Dietetics) at Carson-Newman University must have demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate and potentially graduate courses in nutrition/food science, food preparation and meal management and quantity food systems; multicultural foodways, community nutrition, and special topics; direct the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD), direct student field experiences in the DPD, and potentially develop and direct a Dietetic Internship; Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential and Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist (TN) eligible; relevant professional experience in clinical nutrition and dietetics; evidence of ongoing or established scholarship; ability to advise and mentor undergraduate and potentially graduate students; commitment to teamwork and professional involvement.
The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences is fully accredited by the Council for Accreditation of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. It currently offers five majors including Child and Family Studies with an emphasis in Early Childhood Education (pre-K-3 teacher licensure); Family and Consumer Sciences with emphases in consumer services and teacher licensure in family and consumer sciences education; Fashion Merchandising and Design; Interior Design; and Foods and Nutrition with an Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD).

Candidates for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor will be expected to teach 18 semester hours per year; direct the DPD, advise students in the discipline; and contribute to curriculum development, assessment, and accreditation. The candidate will be expected to participate in professional and scholarly activities, contribute to the university and department missions, be a collegial member of the institution at all levels, and provide services to the department and to the community-at-large. Carson-Newman employs faculty and staff who are actively supportive of its aim as an institution with a Christian commitment. The position is a full-time, 9-month, tenure track to begin January 2021.
