Position Description: Friends Academy seeks an experienced Science/Chemistry teacher who is excited about teaching high school students to engage in our core educational practices. We are searching for someone with excellent communication skills who thrives in a vibrant educational environment, embraces change, and has deep interest in our Quaker mission and educational philosophy. As a full-time faculty member, the person will serve as an advisor for 8-10 students and support a co-curricular activity such as coaching a sport or advising a major school activity. Other support of activities that contribute to the life of the school and attendance at all-school and other meetings, back-to-school nights, and other events is expected of all faculty members. Qualifications: We are looking for bright, energetic, and creative candidates who are current with best practices in Science and Chemistry instruction, with a focus on 21st-century learning skills. An undergraduate degree in Science is required; a graduate degree in education or in a relevant discipline is welcome. We are especially interested in candidates with experience in online and project-based teaching and learning. Successful high school teaching experience of at least three years is desired, including experience with introductory and advanced level Chemistry, including AP Chemistry. Experience with independent schools is welcome; experience teaching students of high school ages is important. A successful candidate must have strong organizational, time management, and technology skills. We are looking for someone who is student-centered and excited to work collaboratively with students, colleagues, and the community.
