On Track OHSU! is part of OHSUs Office of Science Education Opportunities, and works to increase the racial diversity of OHSUs schools and programs and of Oregons biomedical workforce. On Track works with students starting in 6 ^th grade, and stays with those same students through high school and college. On Track has been working with students since 2013 and is currently partnering with communities in North Portland, Woodburn, Warm Springs, and Chiloquin. In Portland we work with Portland Public Schools in N/NE Portland, including Jefferson High School Middle College for Advanced Studies, Ockley Green Middle School, Harriet Tubman Middle School, Vernon K-8 and Faubion K-8.

The North Portland Community Liaison position is a new position. This person will be responsible for creating a direct connection between OHSU and the schools and community partners throughout N/NE Portland. This position is key in providing direct access to Black, African and African American students in our partner schools and will assist in building and adapting program materials and lessons with a culturally responsive lens to best fit the needs of the students from these communities.

Help create a Culturally Responsive environment for all On Track programs, events, and activities

• Coordinate and implement meeting with the15-20 member On Track Portland advisory group to obtain feedback, ideas, and resources for the students and program.
• Analyze data received from the group and use judgement in making decisions regarding future coordination of the program with North Portland students

High School work

• Collaborate with the Health/Science Biotech teachers and other school resources to integrate On Track activities within the school and community, meet regularly with students to discuss high school courses, progress, and goals, specifically within math and science courses, and assist in all On Track events that take place at the high school and OHSUs campus. Develop procedures and forms to support coordination of activities and events between the school district and OHSU, including recruiting volunteers, coordinating student permission slips, communicating with schools and families, supporting students during the event, facilitating parts of the event.

Middle School Work

• Assist On Track Middle School Coordinator with implementation of Middle School lessons and High School volunteer training within the Portland schools, including recruitment and training of high school student volunteer.

Post-Secondary Work

• Hold regular office hours virtually or in person with students at local community colleges, universities, or other accessible locations that serve On Track students, including connecting students to college resources. Make decisions on best resources for students in the pursuit of their educational goals and coordinate meetings with appropriate advisors and support programs.

Family & Community Engagement

• Find or create opportunities to engage with families of participating students by coordinating logistics and implementing program gatherings and outreach and attend relevant community events
• Identify and participate in community events where On Track can have a presence.
• Assist On Track staff at school Back to School and Family Night.
• Meet with families on an individual basis, as necessary, to discuss students goals and future plans.
• Help On Track staff develop relationships with key partners in the North Portland community.

Other duties as assigned

• Assist with other On Track events as needed, provide input on program evaluation, grant proposals and reports. Analyze data to help team learn and make decisions about future programming.

• Four years of general office or secretarial experience; OR An Associates degree or certificate in office occupations or office technology and two years of general office or secretarial experience; OR A Bachelors degree and two years of general office or secretarial experience; OR An equivalent combination of training and experience.

• Demonstrated experience creating culturally responsive activities and events
• Demonstrated experience working with Black/African American students and relevant educational resources.
• Skills and ability to mentor and/or advise students in high school or college.
• Demonstrated knowledge, skills and ability with planning events.
• Comfortable collaborating and communicating with multiple community and OHSU partners including families, school district, and professional entities.
• Demonstrated experience presenting to student and family groups.
• Knowledge of college and scholarship application requirements and strategies.
• Highly organized, with proven ability to manage time and multiple tasks.

• Bachelors Degree

• Minimum 2 years of experience working within the N/NE Portland community

• Background in STEM field; Knowledge of FAFSA process; Familiarity with Oregon colleges and universities; Understanding of college transfer process and bridge programs such as TRiO and LSAMP
