Position Begins: mid-August 2021 Status: Full time, Exempt Department: Instructional Faculty, Upper School Position Description: This is an on-going, full-time appointment open to applicants with the knowledge, experience, and desire to teach both physics and another science course to students in grades 9-12. Qualified candidates will possess a bachelor's degree in physics or a closely related field, although a master’s degree is preferred. Candidates should have experience teaching algebra-based physics in a student-centered classroom. We particularly encourage candidates with knowledge and experience in the modeling instruction approach to science pedagogy to apply. A successful candidate who does not have experience in the modeling approach would be supported in participating in summer professional development in the modeling pedagogy. In addition to teaching physics, an ideal candidate will also be able to teach an upper-level elective course in science, computer science, or engineering. The ideal candidate will have experience with project-based learning, a desire to develop new electives over time, and continually develop the existing core curriculum within a strong and collegial teaching team. As importantly, we seek candidates who have demonstrated success in working with young people, and who will approach their role as an advisor with a drive to better understand the emotional needs of their students and support a program where self-reflection, empathy, and flexibility are valued. Requirements: BA degree required. Excellent interpersonal skills are required.
