The Computer Science and Digital Media department at Germantown Friends School is seeking a teacher to join its dynamic department. Computer Science classes at GFS intend to provide students with rich, engaging instruction in coding, digital media, and tinkering. The ideal candidate is an innovative, collaborative teacher with extensive content knowledge in the areas of computer programming, digital content creation, and web development. The candidate should derive joy from the ideas and expression of young people and impart upon them a love of all things tech. A Master’s Degree, while not required, is preferred.

The ideal candidate

• has experience in Python, Java, and Javascript and can teach these languages to advanced learners
• has an active interest in developing and teaching elective courses in STEM
• enjoys running STEM-related clubs and activities (e.g. robotics competition, hackathon)
• may have experience in and enthusiasm for tinkering and making
• combines a commitment to academic excellence with a joy for learning
• actively and consistently considers curriculum and pedagogy through the lenses of diversity, equity, and inclusion
• enjoys collaborating with colleagues (K-12) on curriculum and lesson planning
• is fluent in the use of educational technology, including Google Classroom, Zoom, and Google Meet

Expectations

• manage a full teaching load, including January Term
• advise a group of 8-10 students 
• participate in the life of the school, including required meetings and duties
• support the school mission and strategic initiatives
• support departmental goals and initiatives, including curriculum development and student-led events
