Position Summary

Assistant Teaching Professor (Qualified Rank Faculty, non tenure-track) of African American Studies, Department of Ethnic Studies in the School of Cultural and Critical Studies, full-time, renewable, academic year, beginning August 2021

Primary Responsibilities

• Teach and develop African American Studies courses
• Teach courses in a secondary area that complements the School of Cultural and Critical Studies offerings (such as community-based learning, qualitative research methods, and/or interdisciplinary theory, and/or related courses in American Culture Studies, Popular Culture, and/or Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies)
• Provide service to university and profession

Expected Start Date: August 2021

The Department of Ethnic Studies explores the ways in which racial and ethnic identities, social relations, cultures, and geographical spaces have been shaped over time. Focusing on the institutions and political/economic/social processes that have staged race at the center of the nation’s histories, Ethnic Studies uses an interdisciplinary approach to analyze the significance of race and ethnicity in contemporary US society. The Department of Ethnic Studies offers a graduate certificate in ethnic studies, undergraduate major and minor degrees in ethnic studies, and a Latino/a studies minor degree. It also contributes to the M.A. and Ph.D. programs in American Culture Studies with regular offerings of interdisciplinary graduate seminars.

The Department of Ethnic Studies is part of BGSU’s  interdisciplinary School of Cultural and Critical Studies which also includes the Department of Popular Culture, Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program, and American Culture Studies Program.
