Position Summary Assistant Teaching Professor (Qualified Rank Faculty, non tenure-track) of African American Studies, Department of Ethnic Studies in the School of Cultural and Critical Studies, full-time, renewable, academic year, beginning August 2021 Primary Responsibilities

Information about the University and Program: The Department of Ethnic Studies explores the ways in which racial and ethnic identities, social relations, cultures, and geographical spaces have been shaped over time. Focusing on the institutions and political/economic/social processes that have staged race at the center of the nation’s histories, Ethnic Studies uses an interdisciplinary approach to analyze the significance of race and ethnicity in contemporary US society. The Department of Ethnic Studies offers a graduate certificate in ethnic studies, undergraduate major and minor degrees in ethnic studies, and a Latino/a studies minor degree. It also contributes to the M.A. and Ph.D. programs in American Culture Studies with regular offerings of interdisciplinary graduate seminars.
The Department of Ethnic Studies is part of BGSU’s interdisciplinary School of Cultural and Critical Studies which also includes the Department of Popular Culture, Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program, and American Culture Studies Program. The School of Cultural and Critical Studies is part of the College of Arts and Sciences. Largest of the collegiate organizations of BGSU, the College of Arts and Sciences includes nineteen schools and academic departments as well as an additional number of formally organized program areas. The academic departments span the range of the traditional disciplines in the arts and humanities, languages, sciences and mathematics and social sciences.
