The Position:

The Associate Dean of Students (ADOS) assists with the management and development of Student Life programs and staff. The ADOS builds relationships with students, staff and faculty to encourage student’s academic, personal, and spiritual growth by facilitating co-curricular activities and assisting in the development of a safe, nurturing campus environment.  The anticipated start date: July 1, 2021.

In order to discharge these responsibilities in accordance with the objects and purposes of Redeemer University, the ADOS must have a deep-seated personal faith in Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord, be thoroughly and thoughtfully committed to the Vision and Mission of Redeemer University and the attendant policies and documents.

Responsibilities:

• The ADOS oversees the residence life staff and program

The ADOS oversees the residence life program and staff. The ADOS ensures that the residence life program aligns with the mission and vision of Redeemer.

• The ADOS assists the Dean of Students in the development and implementation of the vision for Residence Life and assists with the development of long-term departmental goals.
• Supervises the Director, Residence Life
• Meets with Residence Life staff regularly
• The ADOS reviews the hiring of all Residence Life student staff 
• Ensures that Residence Life staff are trained and equipped to fulfill their roles and responsibilities
• The ADOS assists the Residence Life staff in attending to critical situations
• The ADOS assists the Residence Life staff in promoting and adhering to community expectations.
• Assist the Resident Life staff in responding to all campus security issues related to residence life. Works collaboratively with campus security. Receives security reports and after assessment, responds as situations warrant.

1. The ADOS directs the student conduct process 

The ADOS provides leadership in addressing student conduct issues. The ADOS ensures that students and processes are honored and that issues are properly processed.

• Hold students accountable to conduct outlined in the Statement of Life and Conduct and the Student Conduct Code
• Respond to incidents which allege violations of the Student Conduct Code
• Follow the direction and policy articulated in the Student Conduct Code to address matters of student conduct. If required, hold accountability meetings and follow through with necessary disciplinary steps as outlined in the Student Conduct Code.
• Review incidents, and in consultation with the Dean of Students, determine best course of action
• Meet with students who are undergoing a process of student conduct proceedings
• Ensure the proper filing of student conduct records
• Inform the Dean of Students of matters that pertain to student life and student conduct that may have a significant impact on the university’s reputation or ability to achieve its mission and goals
• Manage conflict situations as they arise by connecting with students and helping them to resolve the conflict, utilizing restorative justice measures, if appropriate

• The ADOS oversees and directs the development of students activities and events 

The ADOS provides direction and support to the development of programs, activities and events that encourage on-campus and commuter students to develop holistically. 

• Supervise the Student Engagement Coordinator (SEC)
• Oversee the LAUNCH orientation program, working with the SEC
• Assist with the hiring and training of Commuter Student Advisors, the Campus Culture Assistant, and the LAUNCH team 
• Oversee the commuter student program
• Develop educational program that contribute to student success
• Develop activities and programming that contribute to student retention
• Oversee the development of relevant handbooks and documents (e.g. Commuter Student/International Students handbooks, website, Redeemer app, etc)

• The ADOS leads and develops the international student program

The ADOS serves as a Student Life liaison for International students. The international student programming assists these students in transitioning to Redeemer and contributes to their success at Redeemer throughout their program of studies. 

• Meet with the International Student Advisors on a regular basis to plan activities for international students
• With the assistance of Admissions/Recruitment, plan and facilitate the International Student orientation program (September and January)
• Build healthy relationships with international students and connect with them at international student events
• Connect with the insurance provider to establish a proper health insurance program for all international students
• Serve as a liaison between international students and the health insurance company to assist with the process of filing claims etc.

• The ADOS leads and develops programming for remote students 

The ADOS provides leadership to the remote student co-curricular experience. Their leadership will contribute to the academic success and retention of remote students.

• Identify the unique needs of remote students
• Plan and organize orientation programs for remote students
• Build relationships with remote students
• Develop events and activities for the remote student population
• Serve as a liaison between remote students and other departments at Redeemer, as needed

•  The ADOS leads and develops the co-curricular transcription program

The ADOS coordinates the co-curricular transcript program. This program provides an accurate record of students involvement during their Redeemer experience.

• Establish a process for accurate record keeping of a student's co-curricular and student leadership involvements while at Redeemer
• Liaising with other Redeemer staff who supervise students
• Administrate the keeping of the student’s co-curricular transcript record
• Responding to transcript requests and questions

• The ADOS coordinates sexual violence prevention and response

The ADOS coordinates the programs and relationships involved in sexual violence and response.

• Be familiar with sexual violence policy and protols
• Actively communicate and work with the Dean of Students to respond to situations, as needed
• Develop programs and initiatives to promote sexual violence prevention and awareness
• Coordinate with Redeemer staff and counselling professionals

• The ADOS engages in the mentoring and discipleship of students

The ADOS intentionally develops relationships with students for mentoring and Christian discipleship formation.

• Be familiar with effective mentoring and discipleship practices
• Engages with students who are interested in Christian formation
