Two years of experience in web design, graphic design, website development, communications, or a related field. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties:
Develops marketing strategies, implements marketing tools, and promotes unit activities and programs for the Recreational Sports department.
The ideal candidate is highly skilled in graphic design, a progressive influencer, creative, talented in web-site maintenance, and balance strategic thinking with day-to-day executional skills. Enjoy the challenge of operationalizing processes and bring that nuanced thinking to each project. Stewarding relationships, you will work closely with all program areas within Recreational Sports and the Division of Student Affairs.
At its core, communication and engagement at Recreational Sports starts with our students and delivers a story of how our department helps our campus flourish through physical fitness, health, and well-being.
Primary Responsibilities (Staff Positions Only):
Marketing Coordination (60%)
Work across several aspects of communication and engagement – from graphic design and branding to targeted creative outreach and storytelling, campaign management, advocacy, and events.
Supervise, mentor, evaluate, and schedule work for a student employee team of 10 consisting of graphic designers, photographers, social media managers, and departmental ambassadors.
Create conceptually strong visual designs and graphics through fluency with InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator.
Design production-ready assets such as logos, icons, and graphics.
Across all relevant social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) oversee and manage day-to-day internal account operations and brand integrity.
Ensure department library of quality photos of Rec Sports programs, services, and events.
Partner with program stakeholders to create and execute innovative strategies and marketing plans that drive awareness, engagement, and program/services adoption.
Develop and foster relationships with production partners to deliver great work (brochures, pamphlets, etc.) that are on time and on budget.
Identify optimization opportunities for improving performance and number of participants through use of various web interfaces.
Leverage marketing insights to better understand Sam Houston State University students, faculty, and staff and represent the voice of the user.
Conduct research and analysis on marketing equipment needs and targeted promotional items to meet various programs, services, and facilities.
Develop and implement comprehensive training program including basic graphic design, brand management, customer service, and conflict resolution for all marketing hourly staff.
Website Development (25%)
Oversee design and upkeep of Recreational Sports and Sammypalooza web sites.
Ensure all sites comply with SHSU design standards.
Create new applications, web sites and images for Recreational Sports web pages as needed.
Develop online surveys, job applications and registration forms.
Implement and work with SHSU web templates.
Work with all areas of SHSU Recreational Sports and SHSU IT to coordinate web pages.
Social Media Management & Digital Signage (10%)
Create interactive content for social media and digital signage formats
Coordinate schedule for posting of content on social media and among print publications
Fiscal Management (3%)
Assists with budget development for advertising and staff budgets totaling approximately $100,000 annually.
Serves on Department and University committees as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned by the Associate Director.
