The Department of Physics at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) invites applications for a non-tenure track "Teacher-Scholar Faculty Fellow" at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor, starting August 2021. The candidate must have a PhD in Physics. The successful candidate should be interested in pursuing an academic career at a primarily undergraduate institution (PUI) where teaching and research are both valued and integrated. The position is offered for two consecutive years (pending successful performance during year 1) and is funded in part by a grant to TCNJ from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) through the Science Education Program.

The selected Teacher-Scholar Fellow will work closely with experienced faculty mentors gaining professional development in inclusive pedagogy, course design, student mentoring, and grant proposal writing. The Fellow will have an opportunity to engage highly motivated undergraduates in research, gain teaching experience, and receive mentoring toward attainment of a full-time, tenure-track faculty position. The Fellow will have an office and access to shared research space and equipment in a modern and newly renovated building that offers excellent facilities, including a new high-performance computing cluster. The position includes funding for research supplies, participation in TCNJ's summer research experience for undergraduates program during Summer 2022, and professional travel to disciplinary/professional development conferences
Teaching responsibilities will include introductory physics courses (21 semester hours per year, which is equivalent to 3 courses per semester) and observation of our high school physics student teachers. There may also be an opportunity for the development of course modules in the applicant's area of expertise. The Fellow will be paired with current tenure-track faculty members who will serve as the Fellow's research and teaching mentors. We have special interest in candidates who work in one of the following areas of physics: (a) high-energy/particle; (b) nuclear; (c) atomic, molecular, and optical; or (d) condensed matter. About the Physics Department
The Physics Department is housed in a recently renovated STEM complex that offers state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities and instrumentation, including new research-grade SEM and AFM facilities, a new high-performance scientific computing cluster, a new 0.7 m telescope, and a 48-seat planetarium. The Physics Department currently has ten full-time, tenure-line faculty members and approximately 100 majors. TCNJ's Department of Physics is consistently ranked by the American Institute of Physics and the Physics Teacher Education Coalition as a national leader in the graduation of both physics majors and of high school physics teachers. In 2019, the Physics Department hosted the American Physical Society's Conference for Undergraduate Women in Physics (CUWiP) for the Mid-Atlantic states ().
